  1. How is sea water turned into fresh water?

    By reverse osmosis.

  2. What is reverse osmosis?

Sea water under high pressure is pumped through the membranes which act as molecular sieves, only allowing fresh water to pass through.

  3. Which watermaker do I choose?

According to my needs: coastal or deep-sea navigation? What is my power source?

  4. Do I need to install a power generator?

For coastal navigation, a battery powered watermaker (12 or 24V) can be used. For deep-sea navigation, a power generator will be justified by other needs as well as the desalinator. I will then have the choice between a 220V watermaker or a DUO bi powered desalinator

  5. I have no generator on board.

In this case, a 12 or 24V water maker producing 60 or 100 L/H is suitable.

  6. I have a 3 to 6 KW generator on board.

In this case the most logical is to choose a DUO 60 or DUO 100 (a SOLO 60 or SOLO 100 is also possible).

  7. How many people on board?

For up to five people, the D60 (60L/Hr.) is well adapted. For more than five persons, a 220V system with greater output is more appropriate.

  8. How much space is available on board to fit the equipment?

With more than 8,000 watermakers working around the world, we are in a position to advise you about installation. If there is sufficient space in the boat, a compact version is suitable. The remote control version is suitable for boats for which size and weight of equipment are important factors facilitating installation and maintenance of the equipment.

  9. What does “Compact version” mean?

In this version, the control panel is integrated into the frame of the HP motor.

  10. What does “Remote control version” mean?

In this version, the control panel is separated from the HP motor unit.

  11. When should I sterilize my membranes?

If the watermaker is not used and you cannot rinse it once a month with fresh water, please sterilize your membranes. BEWARE: Not more than twice a year.

  12. What is the mineralizing cartridge used for?

If you sail during several months and you only drink the produced water, you should preferably install this cartridge.

  13. How does the automatic rinsing work?

A solenoid rinsing valve is mounted on the pre filter(s) which is activated for two minutes when reducing pressure.

If you use the watermaker every two or three days, it is not necessary to rinse it: Please just switch off before reducing pressure and the rinsing operation will not be done.
